I agree with Speedstick: Canon Powershot 130IX. It's a little heavier
and bulkier than some of the one's with a proprietary battery, but I
like the image stabilization, massive optical zoom, and hi-def video. I
got this in W Yellowstone to replace an earlier model (110IX) that took
a swim in the Snake River near the S boundary of Yellowstone when I fell
on some slippery stones after trying to jump a deeper section of the
stream. Although I immediately pulled the batteries, memory card, etc.
and strapped it to the top of my pack in the sun for a couple of days,
the ability to take pics didn't return by the time I got to W
Yellowstone, I was able to view the pics I'd already taken from the
memory stick. I had my son express mail me the new model and sent my
disabled one home. To my surprise, when I got home, the model that took
the swim was able to take pics again. ---Handlebar
